The Q4 GOLD™ Model Turbine Spray System is the quietest 4-stage HVLP turbine on the market. Using patented noise reduction, noise levels have been reduced to less than 50-percent of standard HVLP turbines. The 4-stage turbine motor is the most powerful in its class developing 8.5psi.

Now supplied with the Fuji XPC non-bleed spray gun with pattern control knob – the fan size is adjustable from small to large and everything in between (fully incremental). The Fuji XPC spray gun is also non-bleed – air only passes through the spray gun when the trigger is pulled. The benefit is less blowing around of shop dust and less paint buildup on the tip of the fluid nozzle. The spray gun features a stay-cool nylon handle, stainless steel fluid passages and an external needle packing adjustment. Obtain a professional finish with all known coatings.

The standard Aircap set is the general purpose #4 for fine finishing with lacquers, enamels, polyurethanes, latex, water based coatings and more.

The Q4 GOLD™ Turbine is perfect for fine-finishing of cabinets, furniture, automobiles as well as heavy-duty painting projects.

Am I able to modify my older turbine with the newer style non-bleed spray gun?

I am interested in your non-bleed spray gun with the pattern control adjustment knob on the side. Can I use this with my 13 year old Turbine?

These are common questions we often hear…The answer is YES! There is a very simple modification. If the system you own included an XT or XPC model spray gun this change will not be necessary. You will only need to do the modification on a turbine that is more than 10 years old. These turbines would have originally been paired with our bleed style SC-1 model gun (all metal handle).

Below are step by step instructions for anyone wanting to perform this modification.

USING NON-BLEED SPRAY GUNS WITH AN OLDER TURBINE

To allow the new Non-Bleed Spray gun to be used on older turbines, we must add (or modify) the bleeder hole. This lets air pass through the motor at all times and will prevent the motor from overheating.

If your turbine system came with a Non-Bleed Spray gun (air only when you pull the trigger) you do not have to do anything. So if you own a Fuji PRO or GOLD system, you are already set up to use a Non-Bleed Spraygun.

If your model is the old Super, Q3 or Q4 turbine and the word PRO is not silkscreened onto the front of the case, you will need to make a smaller bleeder hole.

1) Unplug the turbine

2) Remove 8 case screws holding on the right side of the case.

3) Remove the side of the case.

4) Drill a 3/16” hole in the manifold (pipe). This is the pipe that leads from the motor housing to the front of the case (where you attach the hose).

5) Replace side of case.

The older Q-Series turbines already have a 1/8” bleeder hole on the outside of the manifold (where the hose attaches). This hole can be seen by turning the turbine case on its side. Simply open up this hole to 3/16” with the correct size drill. You do not need to drill a hole if you own a PRO or a GOLD model.

Thats it! That’s all! Now you will be able to use our new non-bleed spray gun, and will still be able to use your older model bleeder style gun with no loss of performance.

Your Turn…

How long have you had your Turbine? Do you own one of the newer non-bleed Spray guns with your Old Turbine?

Why am I getting Orange Peel is one of the most common questions we get asked at FUJI Spray.

“Orange peel is a certain kind of finish that may develop on painted and cast surfaces, even screen protectors. The texture resembles the surface of the skin of an orange (fruit).”

Paint sprayed on a smooth surface (such as the body of a car or the surface of a furniture piece or cabinet) should dry into a smooth surface. At times various factors can cause it to dry into a bumpy surface resembling this texture.

Orange Peel can be prevented altogether by changing the painting technique or the properties of the material being used.

Here is a quick checklist to consider if you are experiencing orange peel….

Does the material being sprayed need to be thinned?

As a rule of thumb most materials need to be thinned.

How wide of a fan are you spraying and how far away are you from the surface?

Usually 4-5” wide from 6-8” inches away works best.

Are you moving the gun properly?

Moving the gun like an Orchestra Conductor, with a loose wrist works best.

Are you overlapping correctly?

We suggest that you should aim to overlap 1/3 – 1/2 with each pass

The number one issue for orange peel is that the material is too thick.

To remedy this, add more thinner (or appropriate solvent) to the mixture. For fast drying products such as lacquers, you may also want to add a lacquer slowing agent such as Floetrol. This will slow the drying time allowing the material to flow out and level nicely.

With the newer water-based materials orange peel is usually a result of spraying on too thick of a film. Try spraying an extremely THIN FILM, but still WET coat. A wet coat being “no dry spots that you think will flow together” and at the other end “no puddles or runs”.

Remember don’t turn the air down too much. The more air used, the finer the atomisation will be.

This is why we suggest leaving the air control valve fully open when experimenting with a new coating material, otherwise it will cause confusion. If the air control valve is fully open (or perhaps removed for Latex spraying) then orange peel can only be one cause – our number one factor, the material being sprayed is too thick and must be thinned.

Spraying takes practice (both with the gun and the material you are working with). No one can be a master finisher on their first attempt. As they say “practice makes perfect”. Happy Spraying!!

Your Turn…

What sort of finish problems have you experienced when spraying?

Bottom Feed vs Gravity

What is the difference between the Fuji XPC Bottom Feed Spray Gun vs Fuji XPC Gravity Spray Gun?

The preference between the Fuji XPC Bottom Feed spray gun and the Fuji XPC Gravity Spray Gun is a personal choice. Always remember that the performance of the finish would be identical.

The Fuji XPC Bottom Feed Spray Gun is equipped with a 1Qt. Cup. It can hold more material and is great for larger projects whereas the Fuji XPC Gravity Spray Gun has a smaller profile. It has a 400cc side mounted cup with a stand and holds just under half as much paint. This would be great for smaller jobs and getting into tighter places.

Below are common questions we have heard in the past that may help you decide which spray gun is best for you….

I am confused about if I should get the siphon or gravity feed spray gun. I will mostly be using it to spray cabinets and furniture and doors. What do you recommend?

Answer:

Fuji XPC Gravity Spray Gun would be the best choice for the applications that you are describing. The gravity gun has a smaller profile which makes it easier to get in close and spray in those tight spots that cabinets and furniture tend to have. The cup can be positioned forwards or backwards in order to better accommodate the angle that you are spraying at.

I will be spraying 4 bookshelves and then also some part time projects in my garage this summer. Should I choose a spray gun with the cup at the top or the bottom?

Answer:

Once again the Fuji XPC Gravity Spray Gun would be the best choice for the applications that you are describing since it is smaller which makes it easier to get into corners and those hard to access areas that many bookshelves will have. If you plan on tackling larger projects in the future and feel the need to use a larger cup, this can easily be accomplished. There is an adapter available that would allow you to use a 1 quart bottom feed cup assembly. This would double the paint capacity of your gun.

We have decided to purchase the Mini-Mite 4 to spray paint 2 bedrooms in our house. What is the benefit of choosing the Fuji Spray Bottom Feed XPC over Fuji XPC Gravity Spray Gun?

Answer:

Fuji Spray Bottom Feed Gun would be the best choice for this application. It has twice the paint capacity compared to the gravity feed gun. This allows you to work longer with fewer stops in order to refill the cup with paint. You also have the option of purchasing a couple of additional cups (part # 2041), and lids (part # 9903-3). You could fill several cups with pre-mixed paint in order to speed the job up. Once one cup is empty, turn the turbine off and replace the empty cup with one of the pre-mixed full cups.

Your Turn…..

Do you have a specific preference? Bottom Feed or Gravity and Why?

We are recognized as experts in our industry, and wanted the opportunity to interact more meaningfully with our customers, users and distributors.

For our inaugural post, we wanted to write about the top benefits of HVLP Turbine Spray Systems. There are several, and if you really understand the value, you will be able to make more strategic purchasing decisions going forward.

Better transfer efficiency rate

Compressor-driven systems suffer from poor transfer efficiency. Only 1/3 of the materials are applied to the surface and the rest is lost in the air unless you have a sophisticated (and costly) recapturing process. HVLP spray guns, on the other hand, are designed to improve transfer efficiency rates, which means a savings of time and money.

Less overspray with HVLP Turbine Spray Systems

Of course, there is overspray with HVLP turbine spray systems, but significantly less. In fact, the US EPA estimates that typical material savings can well exceed 50%, which represents dramatic cost savings.

Softer, easier to control spray

HVLP spray systems have a much softer spray and are therefore perfect for applications that require a higher degree of control and precision.

The application is laid on very gently, rather than blasted, which means a better result overall.

Ease of use

HVLP turbine spray systems use a very simple and straightforward method, which means that the training process is streamlined and the learning curve is definitely abbreviated.

You will be an expert in no time!

Your turn
